AMA 6th Edition Impairment RatingsPosted: August 26, 2011
On May 1, 2009, the OWCP switched to the American Medical Association’s Guidelines to Rating a Permanent Impairment 6th Edition (from the 5th). This changed the way impairment ratings needed to be performed and impacted the dollar amounts federal employees received on their schedule award claims.
Regardless of whether your federal workers compensation claim was already being reviewed, all claims became subject to the change. 6th Edition ratings are hard to get as most doctors are unfamiliar with its many changes. Every state determines on its own which book it operates under, but the federal government changed to the 6th Edition for all federal employees.
That is why it is so important that your doctor understands how to rate a 6th edition regional impairment rating for your federal workers comp claim. Find your doctor here at FedDoctor.com.
